Congregational singing is a distinctive component of worship at FCC. We sing an eclectic mix of hymns, global music, gospel songs, spirituals, and contemplative music. Sometimes we sing accompanied by organ or piano and sometimes we sing a cappella. We prioritize the singing of recently composed hymns that feature contemporary language and express a progressive theology. FCC developed its own hymnal, Hymns of Truth and Light, which is used by more than 100 churches throughout the country.
Additionally, there are several opportunities for those interested in getting involved in music making at a deeper level. Our Meeting House Choir is open to all singers from 7th grade to adults. The choir rehearses weekly on Sunday Mornings and sings for worship most Sundays. Our handbell choir, the Decibells, rehearses on Wednesday evenings and shares music in worship approximately once per month. There are also opportunities for instrumentalists to share music in worship.
If you are interested in any of these music opportunities at FCC, contact the church office at office@fcc-houston.org.
