Adult Christian Education at FCC focuses on spiritual formation, theological literacy, church history, biblical studies, and social justice, as we believe that each of them inform our liberal understanding of Christianity.
First Congregational Church members are active in social justice efforts in Houston. Guest speakers from local agencies/organizations are frequently invited to speak on topics related to their areas of expertise. Topics covered in these classes include but are not limited to LGBTQ activism, environmental awareness, immigration, and political engagement at the local and state levels.
Classes on theology, church history, and the Bible do not require any prior knowledge to participate. All are welcome. We do occasionally do book studies for Christian Education, but even in those classes the reading is not required to attend and engage in the material.
Please refer to the church calendar for class schedules. For questions about Adult Christian Education programing at FCC Houston, please contact Elizabeth Thonney, the chair of the Board of Christian Education, at christianed@fcc-houston.org.
