ONGOING MAJOR ACTIVITIES - 2009-2010

 Financial Constraints for Uncertain Times

The Trustees are providing financial guidance to the Church Council as we navigate through uncertain times. Our capital program has been downsized for this year, with only urgent items being funded.

 Campus Trees and Grounds

The loss of six old trees over the past two years has invigorated the Campus Improvement Project (CIP) for reforestation and landscaping. This 2003 plan had been delayed until funds were assured by personal contributions and by Endowment grants from special earmarked funds.  A planning committee -- two Trustees and experts from our membership -- began CIP in 2008 when 25 new trees were planted.  Landscaping projects continued this year.

 Systems and Procedures

We continue to initiate and review ways to allow and control remote financial record entry and maintenance, using new bookkeeping software from our vendor, CDM. We also are improving our records on such things as contractor insurance coverage and performance. This will aid in clear and appropriate transition from one Board term to the next and help the staff work more efficiently.

 Preventive Maintenance

A number of the preventive maintenance programs initiated in 2007 are ongoing, keeping Campus assets in good shape. This includes regular service to mechanical systems, repairs, termite protection, tree trimming, and copper roof maintenance.

 HVAC Systems

With going green an evergreen goal, heating and air conditioning investments continue during the current recession, but at a slower pace than planned. One air-handling system for the Christian Education building is being replaced in 2009. We’re seeing reduced power usage by taking into account both cost and power efficiency with every new HVAC-related purchase.
