Michael
Jost "Retires"—
His Class Was Not
Bible 101!
When the same
people show up for a class Sunday after Sunday, there is usually something
of interest going on. Michael Jost, who ended a
six-year Bible study series in May, had a core group of dedicated students
(with visitors always welcome), who threw a party in his honor.
With a seminary
and hospital chaplaincy background, Michael presented in-depth information
on the New Testament and its connection to the Jewish scriptures. The
class was ideal for people interested in learning how their religion came
into being and in making their personal faith journey in the company of
scholarship.
Health issues
and the fact that he is in the final stages of writing a book were the
reasons Michael exchanged a regular class schedule for an occasional
appearance.
Sue Campbell
said this about the class: "I've been interested in the Bible since I was
in high school. But Michael taught us so much by taking a different
approach. He taught the religion of Jesus instead of the religion about
Jesus."
Roy Meinke had
this to say: "The lessons he shared based on his hospital counseling work
proved invaluable in helping me provide comfort or solace to people.
Michael has a way of presenting such lessons without revealing anything
confidential."
