The United Church of Christ has been
involved in mission work in Honduras for more than 30 years, with Dr.
Joyce Baker a primary contact, all long distance sans e-mail. Then 12
years ago, Suse Jahns asked the FCC Mission Board where she might do some
mission work. Mary Sue Fairchild suggested she go to Honduras and talk to
Dr. Baker.
That was the start of the
up-close-and-personal effort, beginning in Pinalejo. A group from the
church renovated a termite-infested Mission House. Then, the Nutrition
Center was upgraded, important for the mothers and children who came to
learn better nutrition and gardening.
Later, the website will report in depth on two more
activities: A knitting ministry helps keep people warm with sweaters
and empowers the knitters – 400 of them to date. Most recently, new stove
designs are changing lives dramatically.
