Elizabeth serves as FCC’s Interim Director of Christian Education, overseeing a highly regarded faith formation program that encompasses learning and enrichment for babies and toddlers through senior high and adults.
Having grown up in The First Congregational Church of Moline, Illinois, Elizabeth brings a lifetime of experience to her role at FCC Houston. As a child and youth in the UCC, she attended church camps at Pilgrim Park (IL), Tower Hill (MI), and Ghost Ranch (NM), attended the UCC’s National Youth Event, and taught Sunday school for many age groups in the Midwest and in New York City. She was active in Meals on Heels, the weekend supplement to Meals on Wheels, cooking and delivering food to apartment-bound AIDS patients, and for eight years, she had the privilege to feed, distribute personal care items to and coordinate shelter for New York’s homeless. She has long been active in The Pajama Program, which provides new pajamas and books for children who are homeless or living at or below the poverty line. Another passion is the Dress For Success program, through which Elizabeth has organized professional clothing drives and provided career guidance for women entering or re-entering the work force.
Elizabeth received her B.F.A. in theatre arts from Drake University and went on to study at the The National Theatre Institute at the Eugene O’Neill Center. She worked as an actress is theatre and television in New York City before seguing into coordinating publicity for the U.S. fine jewelry and watch industry as Executive Director of the Jewelry Information Center. She then served as President and CEO of Powerhouse Communications, also in New York City, and as Co-Founder and Creative Director of Enchanted Envelope, Australia’s first online stationery store, in Sydney.
For two years, she co-led Joyful Noise, FCC’s music and theatre program for children in 1st – 5th grades and JNiTs (Joyful Noise in Training), our 3-5 year olds. This summer, Elizabeth became certified as a Godly Play storyteller and she’s brought FCC’s Godly Play program back to life. Elizabeth and her husband are the happy parents of two energetic sons.
