Deacons
The Board of Deacons is a special group of people who work behind the scenes to make sure all worship services at FCC go smoothly.  A Deacon is described in the early church as a  "host or  "waiter".  It is a perfect label for what we do; a deacon is probably one of the first people a visitor will see upon entering the Meeting House, they endeavor to keep up with the cares and concerns of members, insure that the Meeting House is ready for guests and worship, it is they who serve communion, welcome new members, and who tidy up afterward.  I have served on a variety of Boards and committees over the years, but when I became a deacon, I knew I was right where I belonged.  It fulfills both my "mother hen" tendencies and the work we do fills my spiritual well over and over.

Visitation Ministry

A couple of years ago a visitation ministry was started here at First Congregational Church. The goal was to connect hospitalized and homebound members of our church with another person or persons from the congregation who would make regular visits and phone calls. We have about 12 people involved in this ministry at present and are looking for more volunteers to take part. Reaching out to those who are no longer able to attend worship is an important part of church life. We are a family joined together through faith in God, and are called to the responsibility of caring for one another. Jesus tells us in the 25th chapter of Matthew that when we care for those who are sick or in need, we are touching God. If you are interested in taking part in this visitation ministry, contact Ken Richter, Les Switzer, Sylvia Richards or the church office. We will be getting together as a visitation group to learn and support one another sometime this spring. Young or old, all are invited to take part.
